Fairymead House is Bundaberg’s most exclusive wedding and meeting destination, offering the Stan Lohse Function Room within the unique heritage listed building, set amongst the lush outlook of the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens.
Built in 1890, the grand homestead was built by the Young family of the Fairymead Sugar Mill and Plantation in Bundaberg. Nearly 100 years later, Fairymead House was given to the City of Bundaberg as a bicentennial gift from Bundaberg Sugar, at which time it was relocated to where it now stands proudly in the Bundaberg Botanic Gardens.
From its humble history entwined in the pioneering days of the Sugarcane industry, today Fairymead House is also home to a Sugar History Museum which celebrates the history of the sugarcane industry in Bundaberg, with its collection now housing interpretive items donated by local cane farming families and icons in the Bundaberg community.
Share in the history of the pioneer sugar families and discover the process of producing sugar, from cane to crystal. Be enchanted by Indian bungalow architecture as you explore this grand plantation house and imagine life on a sugar cane plantation back in the late 1800’s.
